In Dec 2018 our first Challenge was played.
It is inspired by events in 1974 where Lt Zeelie was KIA.
The mission is set in a time without GPS, without rechargeable batteries, cell phones and tar roads in the middle of the vast African bush. We would like to thank all who participated in Operation Zeelie, and hope you had a lot of fun. You are a great community, and we look forward to growing with you!
The Map Builder ICE did a sterling job in building such a realistic map that it brought tears to the eyes of those involved in the conflict – both sides.
The first round helped everyone to get a feel of how it will work with having an observer in the team – how we deal with time zones, serves, mods, setups, and making sure the playing field is even = and then presenting this for review.
As a first round this was very informative: Players form 4 continents in 19 countries participated and provided game-play of a high standard. Well done to Johan and his team for getting the right guys to the challenge. This was a good learning curve and orientation for all on how this is best to implement and enjoy it. From here on in it will be slicker and more focused.
We also want to thank the following persons without whom this challenge could not have happened:
1. Homesick (Bohemia Interactive)
Thank you for your input, feedback and advice. More so, please relay our utmost appreciation to the rest of the Bohemia team, for giving us a game that has seen to thousands of hours of fun, entertainment, camaraderie, and interactions with the most amazing people from around the globe.
2. Petra Cephas (ArmsCor Mod).
Having been there with us from the beginning, he provided us with the base SADF vehicles, weapons and lots of other good stuff which formed the foundation of the authenticity of this Challenge Series. Thanks Dana, we really appreciate it and you will always be a great friend…even if you may be a Wallaby supporter now.
3. IceBreakr (IceBreakr Studios).
Ice built the authentic SE Angola map that all of you have grown to both love and hate (for spending hours trying to find your way back). LOL. Thanks Ice, we still cannot believe you built something so accurate and authentic based on some place you’ve never been. Truly Top of Class!
4. Jakes -Matriarch Gaming (Bush Wars Mod)
For filling all the gaps to make this series truly authentic, by skinning the SWAPO, FAPLA, UNITA, SADF, C-130, Oryx, Footprints and building many more elements. Also, for his Mission Builders Group which helped us with some skills to build some awesome dynamics into the missions. Thanks also for helping to set up this Discord Server for us! Thanks Jakes…rest well for now…we’ll be keeping you up again until 03:00 in the morning soon.
For his countless hours and immense patience in programming and setting up all the servers that all of you played on, as well as our testing servers. Also for creating the spectator & game logging capabilities and much, much more. He has been with us every step of the way, sacrificing many, many nights of sleep to be there live during the game-plays, just in case anything goes wrong. Thanks Phoenix, we would have been completely lost without you the past 2 months.
6. Too many names to mention, but all of you whom have given input and suggestions on making this Challenge better. All the participants can look forward to some GREAT stuff that will be added to the dynamics based on these suggestions. Keep them coming, please guys.
7. Finally, all the “Evolved” Recces. Thank you for being the original heroes that did the most incredible things, and took soldiering to the next level. Thank you for allowing us to share this Challenge with the world, and for embracing the gaming world with such enthusiasm. The values of the Recce way, is an inspiration to us all.
